Clark Realty Participates in PHMA Conference in New Orleans
The Premier Military Housing Event of the Year Helps Bring Business and Tourism Back to the Hurricane Ravaged City
New Orleans - Clark Realty, one of the nation's premier military housing providers, participated this week in the Professional Housing Management Association (PHMA) Professional Development Seminar and Trade Expo. The PHMA conference attracted over 1,200 attendees, including high ranking military officials, property managers, and military housing corporations from all over the nation. Organizers hosted the conference in New Orleans in hopes of returning business to the area, following the $1 billion loss in tourism following Hurricane Katrina.
The PHMA conference featured a two-day tradeshow along with lectures and panel discussions featuring dynamic speakers who specialize in various aspects of the military housing industry. Clark Realty hosted an exhibit during the tradeshow, highlighting several of their award-winning military properties from across the country. Several Clark Realty development executives with vast experience in military housing attended the event.
On January 22, The Office of the Secretary of Defense held the "Housing Privatization Forum." This seminar highlighted Clark Realty's Pacific Beacon Bachelor Enlisted Quarters in San Diego, the nation's first large-scale privatization of single-sailor housing. Scott Forrest, Special Ventures Acquisition, Source Selection Authority, presented the Navy's portion of the seminar. Forrest focused on how Clark Realty's involvement in the privatization of Pacific Beacon and other military housing communities greatly improves the quality of life for U.S. military personnel.
On January 23, the "Army RCI Sustainability Training" workshop also featured examples of Clark Realty's military housing work during a presentation by Tom Gallas of Torti Gallas and Partners. The presentation highlighted energy efficient design and green building efforts on Clark Realty-lead projects.
"The PHMA conference has always been an important event for Clark Realty," said, Phil Cowley development executive for Clark Realty Capital. "It's rewarding to know that we are not only attending an event that is vital to our industry, but we are also participating in the revival of New Orleans tourism."
While serving as an educational and networking event for the Professional Housing Management Industry, events surrounding the convention also highlighted the vibrant culture and cuisine of New Orleans. The conference included Cajun style lunches and dinners, and a Mardi Gras themed Closing Party. Large conferences, such as PHMA, assist in the recovery of New Orleans' tourism industry from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
